Time once again for the news within the association. What a winter it has been, I know that a lot
of you have had it worse than us, but we certainly have had a lot of cold, cold days and nights.
Not that much snow in our area though and that is just fine with me, I believe in rain.
The good news – bull sales are going strong and there is a strong demand for red females. I know
that brings smiles to all of your faces. Now for the news –
Congratulations to Brady – proud dad of a baby girl, Sydney, born on Dec.19, weighing
7lbs 1 ounce. There is nothing as special as a baby.
NILE:
Ken and I attended the Nile meeting along with the Klompiens and Veronica Christensen. We held a
discussion about us switching to the end of the week, but Justin Mills ask if we would just hold
tough at least another year. He would like to see consistency and have the breeds continue with
the same agenda every year. He feels strong about keeping it the same every year and asked us for
just a little more patience. They are also trying to have the vendors come into the NILE earlier
in the week, since Saturday has the least attendance. There will be some changes with the pen
show and Justin plans on being at our spring meeting to explain the changes.
The NILE committee just got word from Seth Leachman – He will not be doing any consignment sales
this fall, so we are hard at work trying to come up with a new plan. So far we have had several
names given to us and lots of ideas coming in. We have been given several names and are in the
process of selecting a new one. We will bring everyone up to date at our spring meeting.
Red Redemption Program:
Kay has been busy visiting with John Goggins about the big oops in the reporter. They came up with
an advertising plan, called the Red Redemption program.
Here’s the scoop:
The Western Ag Reporter would like to make amends for their error in judgment and has offered the following: They will honor 1 free color added to every Red Angus ad that is run January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010. All sizes of ads included. If you choose to run a full-color ad; the price of “one color” will be deducted from the total. Over all, the color bonus amounts to about a 13% discount. This program is bound to be a “hiccup” in their system, so if the discount is not automatically deducted from your bill; please gently remind the staff about the “Red Redemption Program”.
John felt bad about the way everything got handled and apologizes to all of us.
Juniors:
We are in need of a Montana Junior Red Angus advisor. Tammie Haug was the current advisor and has
declined to continue the position. Julie has been filling in until we find a permanent position.
It would be wonderful if anyone that would be interested please contact me. Although we don't
have very many junior members at the present, we need to keep moving forward and promoting
Montana Junior Red Angus and recruiting new members. If you feel you would like to be a part of
this wonderful opportunity or know of anyone that may be please let Julie know.
National Convention:
The 2010 convention committee has there own website. The convention location in Springfield MO. is
just a short drive from Branson. With regular updates we hope to make it an aid to you for planning
your trip and perhaps making it a vacation. Would you please inform your members of this
website www.raaa2010.org either on your website, in your newsletter, or what may work best for
you?
Montana Red Angus Tour:
The committee for the central area had a meeting at our house. Larsons, Fischers, Fraziers and
Laubachs will be the hosts for this year’s tour. We decided to hold it on September 4th and 5th.
We are going to concentrate on the commercial breeders in each of our areas. We will not only
have you visiting our ranches but some of the commercial breeders around us. There will be some
surprises along the way. And with the agenda we are looking into, there will be some fun to be
had. We will have some information finalized and presented at our spring meeting.
2011 Calendars:
We will once again be selling the calendar months for 2011. The calendars have been a HUGE hit
with everyone. We are continually getting asked about them and have people calling and wanting
us to mail them one. Just letting you know it has been one of the best things we have done
within the association. If by some chance you cannot make the meeting we would be happy to help
you get a month, all you have to do is contact one of us.
Regional Areas:
Our president came up with a plan this year, the board will have a contact in each region of
Montana and every one will have a meeting and be the spokes person for their area. So please
if you have any questions, wants or desires for the association call the representive in your
area and speak with them, let them know what we could be doing to improve. We are always open
ideas.
